Splendid sonorous works by Heinrich Schütz and Georg Otto
It could almost be seen as a musical journey back in time to Schütz's past in Kassel, in that the music of Heinrich Schütz encounters here the works of Georg Otto (c. 1550-1618). Otto was court kapellmeister to the Hessian landgrave Moritz from 1687. Born in Torgau, Otto received his education at the Saxon court in Dresden and in Schulpforta, and was cantor in Langensalza before finally moving to Kassel. When the young Schütz came to Kassel in 1599, he became Otto's pupil as a choirboy. In this concert, the works of teacher and former pupil can now be heard in the masterly interpretation of the renowned ensemble Weser-Renaissance.
